A new venture for the History society will be
its Open Kirkyard afternoon on June 9th
2011 1pm to 4pm at Currie Kirk. All will be welcome
to this free event. Drop in
for as short or as long a time as you want to explore this peaceful and ancient
place.
Members of the Society will lead short tours and share their knowledge
and enthusiasm for local history gleaned from the graves of service people,
Juniper Green’s tradespeople, and the members of some of the long-established
local families.
For family historians, Val Wilson, the
Society’s librarian, will bring the list of memorial inscriptions for the
kirkyard and also a map of the lairs.

Learn some of the legends of our local
worthies! Do you know who is
supposed to have had his grave dug ahead of time? And jumped into it to check its
size?
Admire a very special sundial and hear of the
historical excavations carried out forty years ago. Discover some ancient stones and some
very intriguing ones too!

The very popular Currie Kirk House cafe will
operate all afternoon serving tea and coffee and goodies, so if you need a break
from your studies there will be a very pleasant opportunity to sit and
chat.
We
are grateful to the Minister and Kirk session for their support for this
idea.
